The new era of rise: New bright spots emerging in Dong Thap Muoi (Part 15)
Binh Hoa commune – Optimising agriculture and unlocking border trade potential
A new name has officially appeared on the administrative map – Binh Hoa Commune, formed through the merger of the former communes Binh Hoa Dong, Binh Hoa Trung and Binh Thanh. With a total area of 117.85 km² and a population of 13,581, Binh Hoa is a vast rural area blessed with natural resources and a proud historical legacy.
The name “Binh Hoa” has long evoked memories of the early days of exploration and the generations who toiled tirelessly to build the peaceful and prosperous land it is today.
The commune’s administrative centre is located in Binh Hoa Dong, a site currently undergoing upgrades to become a central hub for governance and connectivity. From this foundation, the commune aims to expand high-quality rice cultivation, boost the production of specialty fruit crops, and especially develop services linked to border trade – a strategic advantage enabling Binh Hoa to reach wider markets, enhance connectivity and improve livelihoods. This multi-pronged approach offers a dual engine for the commune’s future growth.
Moc Hoa commune – Advancing sustainable agriculture and riverine ecotourism
Located in the heart of the cherished Dong Thap Muoi region, Moc Hoa Commune was formed by merging three areas rich in tradition: Tan Thanh, Tan Lap and the former Binh Phong Thanh township. With a natural area of 135.56 km² and nearly 17,000 residents, Moc Hoa is more than an administrative merger – it embodies a vision of convergence and breakthrough, deeply rooted in cultural identity.
From high-quality rice paddies to aquaculture ponds and wetlands, the commune paints a peaceful yet vibrant countryside scene. While agriculture remains its backbone, Moc Hoa is charting a new path: developing riverine ecotourism to offer visitors a close-up experience of nature and the simple, captivating beauty of rural life. A key highlight is the newly invested, modern administrative headquarters, situated on the site of the current District Party Committee and People’s Committee of Moc Hoa.
The name “Moc Hoa” recalls a heroic past – and today, it carries renewed hopes of rising further. With sound development orientations and the united efforts of both the government and the people, Moc Hoa commune is poised to become a bright spot – where past, present and future converge, progressing towards prosperity while preserving the distinct identity of the riverine region.
Kien Tuong ward – A new centre for high-quality agriculture
Amidst the expansive, tradition-rich Dong Thap Muoi region, Kien Tuong ward emerges as a newly established administrative unit formed from the merger of the former Wards 1, 2 and 3 of Kien Tuong town (prior to its dissolution as a district-level unit).
Located at the heart of the region – formerly home to the Kien Tuong town administrative centre – the ward enjoys ideal conditions for comprehensive development. More than just a governance centre, it serves as a vital link in Dong Thap Muoi’s broader development plans. On a land shaped by generations of pioneers reclaiming wetlands, a youthful centre is rising, oriented toward trade, services, and especially high-quality agriculture.
The name “Kien Tuong” is both familiar and newly invigorated. It honours the history of a resilient land while also signalling bold aspirations for the future. No longer fragmented pieces, today’s Kien Tuong is a unified whole – pooling human resources, natural endowments and development ambition. This internal strength is the driving force for transformation, making Kien Tuong a promising destination and a core driver in the development strategy of the Mekong Delta region, contributing to shared prosperity./.
