The new era of rise: Aspirations to reach further, imprints of the borderlands and the Dong Thap Muoi region (Part 16)
Binh Hiep commune - A bright gateway on the border region
Binh Hiep commune was formed from the merger of 4 communes: Thanh Tri, Binh Tan, Binh Hiep (currently belonging to Kien Tuong town) and Binh Hoa Tay (currently belonging to Moc Hoa district), with a total natural area of 123.68km² and a population of more than 21,000 people.
The name “Binh Hiep” is retained to honour history while reaffirming the locality’s strategic position. This area is home to the Binh Hiep International Border Gate – a key intersection facilitating vibrant trade between Vietnam and Cambodia, with strong potential for border economic development. Major national highways running through the locality not only drive regional growth but also position Binh Hiep as a dynamic commercial transit hub, where border trade thrives with increasing intensity.
Binh Hiep commune is not only a fertile land of endless rice fields but also a cradle for high-quality, eco-friendly agricultural models. These initiatives produce high-value crops that help elevate the reputation of local agricultural products.
With its prime location, Binh Hiep commune holds tremendous potential for robust development in industry, trade, and services—particularly in border gate economy. This forms a solid foundation for attracting investment, generating jobs, and improving local living standards.
The commune’s headquarters is located in the heart of Binh Hiep—a fertile land rich in potential. Beyond administrative convenience, this location reflects the locality’s determination to build a dynamic and vibrant new centre of economy, politics, and culture.
Tuyen Thanh commune - A strategic buffer in the heart of Dong Thap Muoi
In the expansive landscape of the Dong Thap Muoi region, Tuyen Thanh commune emerged from the merger of three areas rich in tradition and potential: the former Tuyen Thanh commune, Thanh Hung commune (currently belonging to Kien Tuong town), and a portion of Than Can hamlet (currently within Bac Hoa commune, Tan Thanh district).
Covering more than 108 km², Tuyên Thạnh offers expansive space for development, guided by strategic orientations in infrastructure and high-tech agriculture. Though its current population of 15,331 falls slightly short of standards (95.82%), this gap presents a window of opportunity—attracting investment, welcoming population influx, and improving living standards through socio-economic projects.
As part of the province’s broader development momentum - the "western gateway" connecting Ho Chi Minh City with Cambodia and the Mekong Delta provinces, Tuyen Thanh commune plays a vital strategic role in the development of Kien Tuong town (before ending its district-level activities).
With its favourable geographical position, Tuyen Thanh serves not only as a launchpad for socio-economic development but also as a vital “green belt” that preserves ecological agriculture and river systems—striking a balance between growth and conservation.
Located in the lowlands of Đồng Tháp Mười, Tuyên Thạnh is directly influenced by the Vàm Cỏ River and seasonal floods. Yet this wetland terrain, paired with a tropical monsoon climate, creates ideal conditions for rice cultivation, aquaculture, and crop diversification. The key lies in adapting and leveraging these advantages through scientific innovation and a sustainable development mindset. The adoption of smart, eco-friendly agricultural solutions will be the key development direction.
Khanh Hung commune – Harnessing border advantages, firmly stepping into high-tech agriculture
Spanning more than 145 km² and home to over 20,000 people, Khanh Hung commune was formed from parts of Khanh Hung, Hung Dien A, Vinh Tri, Thai Binh Trung, and Thai Tri communes. Strategically located on the border, Khánh Hưng serves as the “southern gateway” of the region—a vital trade connection point between Vietnam and Cambodia. This not only boosts cross-border trade but also strengthens territorial sovereignty and economic integration, opening new avenues for investment and cooperation.
Khanh Hung boasts clear advantages: fertile agricultural land, a dense canal network, and strong potential for high-tech agriculture and vibrant international trade. Infrastructure continues to improve, while local culture reflects the rich identity of the Southern region, coupled with a strong tradition of unity and resilience among its borderland residents. These factors together form a firm foundation—not only ensuring social welfare but also enabling a powerful leap in socio-economic development, positioning the commune toward a modern, efficient agricultural future.
