The new era of rise: Converging potentials, reaching out to aspirations (Part 7)
From July 1, 2025, Long An, in line with national reforms, officially embarks on a new phase of development: comprehensive, strong, and full of expectations. Instead of the traditional 3-level management model, Long An province will manage 60 new commune-level administrative. This is not merely an administrative boundary adjustment but a strategic reform aimed at building a modern, streamlined, effective, and efficient governance framework, opening up fresh space for growth. The removal of the district level shortens decision-making processes, enhances administrative efficiency, and brings provincial policies closer to the people. At the same time, commune-level units will be empowered to foster innovation and adaptability in socio-economic development. From June 5, 2025, Long An Newspaper and Radio-Television Station will launch a new column, entitled “The Era of Rise,” on page 4, profiling all 60 newly established commune-level units resulting from mergers and consolidations. This series aims to provide readers with a comprehensive and in-depth look into the land and people of Long An.

Part 7:  Converging potentials, reaching out to aspirations

Following the merger, the newly formed communes of Tan Lan, Can Giuoc, My Loc, and Phuoc Ly are poised to thrive, from high-tech agricultural fields to booming sectors in services, trade, industry, and logistics.

Tan Lan Commune - From green fields to a modern industrial park

Tan Lan commune was newly established through the merger of Tan Lan and Phuoc Dong. Covering a total area of 38.93 km² and home to nearly 30,000 residents, Tan Lan is not only a fertile land but also a hub of innovation. The decision to locate the administrative center in a strategic, central position — combined with upgraded transport infrastructure — has created vital connectivity, facilitating trade and unlocking new opportunities for sustainable economic growth.

Today, Tan Lan is more than just a land of endless green fields — it is also emerging as a cradle of high-tech agriculture and industry. This reflects a forward-thinking development strategy, where modern farming not only guarantees food security but also supplies valuable raw materials for the processing sector, forming a closed and sustainable value chain. Every grain of rice, every agricultural product from Tan Lan carries not only material worth but also embodies the diligence, creativity, and far-reaching aspirations of its people

More than just an administrative unit, Tan Lan commune also safeguards proud chapters of history, most notably the Tan Lan intersection, a provincially recognised historical site. It stands not only as a symbol of local pride but also as a cultural destination where visitors can reconnect with their roots and experience the echoes of the past. The integration of historical heritage into tourism development has given Tan Lan a distinct identity. As the commune embraces economic transformation, it remains firmly rooted in tradition, forging a future that is both vibrant and full of promise

Can Giuoc Commune- A hub for developing trade, services, and industry

Can Giuoc Commune — a new name, yet infused with the dynamic spirit of convergence and growth — was established through the merger of Can Giuoc town, Long Hau, and Phuoc Lai communes. Spanning a vast area of 60.40 km² and home to an impressive 77,704 residents, Can Giuoc is endowed not only with expansive space but also with a wealth of human resources, poised to shape a prosperous and forward-looking future.

Situated at the heart of Can Giuoc district, the newly established Can Giuoc Commune is strategically positioned as a key hub, with strong links to surrounding areas, particularly Ho Chi Minh City. This prime location catalyzes the rapid development of logistics, trade, and industry. More than just a gateway, Can Giuoc functions as a vital transit centre where goods and services flow continuously, reinforcing the commune’s pivotal role in the regional supply chain.

The commercial–service–industrial development model serves as the guiding compass for Can Giuoc Commune — a smart strategy designed to fully capitalise on its geographic advantages, abundant resources, and strong growth potential. The merger has brought tangible benefits to residents: improved infrastructure, expanded employment opportunities, and enhanced public services — all contributing to the creation of an ideal living environment. Can Giuoc is striving to position itself as both an attractive destination for investors and a place where communities can truly 'settle down and thrive', crafting a narrative of prosperity, dynamism, and ambition.

My Loc Commune – Where heritage awakens in harmony with high-tech agriculture

My Loc Commune embarks on a new chapter following the merger of three former communes: Phuoc Lam, Thuan Thanh, and My Loc. Carrying with it a strong desire for transformation and progress, the newly formed commune spans 32.71 km² and is home to 40,199 residents. More than just a geographical shift, the merger has woven together deep-rooted traditional values and modern development aspirations, giving rise to a distinctive identity for this land.

My Loc retains its name, deeply associated with the legacy of the patriotic scholar Nguyen Dinh Chieu. This rich tradition is not only a source of local pride but also a priceless spiritual heritage, unlocking vast potential for the development of cultural tourism and historical education. Visitors and students alike are drawn here to connect with a heroic past and gain a deeper appreciation of profound human values.

Alongside heritage preservation, My Loc has set a clear course for the development of high-tech agriculture — a strategic move aligned with modern trends. This approach enables local farmers to embrace advanced production methods, enhance the quality of agricultural goods, and expand their reach to wider markets.

My Loc’s strategic location — with its administrative headquarters retained in the former My Loc commune, situated along the district’s main thoroughfare — offers significant advantages for trade, connectivity, and socio-economic development. This favourable positioning enables high-tech agricultural products to access markets with ease, while also attracting commercial and service activities that contribute to a vibrant, dynamic local economy. High-tech agriculture remains the cornerstone of My Loc’s development strategy, aimed at increasing production value, boosting farmers’ incomes, and fostering sustainable growth. My Loc is crafting a narrative where heritage is celebrated, agriculture is innovated, and aspirations are fulfilled.

Phuoc Ly Commune- New life from new rural development

Phuoc Ly commune was newly formed from the merger of three communes: Phuoc Ly, Long Thuong, and Phuoc Hau, with a natural area of 27.37 km² and a population size of up to 42,840 people. This is not only a combination of geography and administration but also converges historical, cultural values, and strong development potential.

With a centrally advantageous location and its administrative headquarters based in Long Thuong commune, Phuoc Ly stands as a “bridge” between traditional values and modern development. The name Phuoc Ly has been preserved as a tribute to the heroic past of this land, once honoured as a Heroic Commune during the renovation era. This proud history serves not only as a source of identity but also as a powerful inspiration, motivating both the local people and authorities to join hands in shaping a developed, cultured, and forward-looking Phuoc Ly, confidently stepping into the future.

Beyond a mere expansion in area and population, Phuoc Ly commune has charted a clear development path — advancing new rural development hand in hand with high-tech agriculture. This strategic direction opens up fresh opportunities to enhance livelihoods while fostering sustainable economic growth. Blessed with favourable natural conditions and empowered by scientific and technological advancements, this land holds great promise to emerge as a model of modern yet culturally rooted rural development./.
