50 year breakthrough of transport sector
Through the nation's long wars, Long An suffered many losses when fields, gardens, and houses were severely destroyed, and the transportation infrastructure almost started from zero.

Over the past 50 years, with a new, innovative mindset, daring to think and act, Long An has gradually focused on building and perfecting the transport system, creating a foundation for the province's socio-economic development. In addition to national highways, the former Provincial Road 49 (now National Highway 62) has helped to develop and turn Dong Thap Muoi into a large rice granary of the country; Provincial Road 830 connects 4 districts in the key economic region, making the province the No. 1 position in the Mekong Delta in terms of industrial - commercial - service development.

Along with that, a series of transport works and projects are being implemented, promising to open up new development opportunities, creating important momentum for socio-economic development, gradually realizing the goal of becoming a fairly developed province in the Southern Key Economic Region and entering a new era of the nation with the whole country.

Building a transportation system with breakthrough mindset

The province's transportation system is invested synchronously and modernly, creating momentum for socio-economic development

Long An has an important position as the gateway to the West, adjacent to Ho Chi Minh City. However, 20 years ago, the province's economy had not really made a breakthrough, agricultural production still accounted for a high proportion in the economic structure, attracting investment to the province was difficult when many investors did not really consider Long An an attractive destination. Although it had many potentials and advantages, at that time, the province's transportation system was still very backward and lacked synchronization. In addition to national highways, most of the province's roads were small and narrow.

In response to the requirements of industrialization and modernization, in the last 3 terms of the Party Congress, prioritizing resources to build a transportation infrastructure system was identified as one of the breakthrough programs of strategic significance in socio-economic development. At the 9th Provincial Party Congress, term 2010 - 2015, the Program to mobilize all resources to build transport, electricity and water infrastructure systems to serve industrial development was identified as one of the 4 breakthrough programs.

Along with that, 3 traffic works including Long Hau - Tan Tap road, Thu Thua - Binh Thanh road and Provincial Road 819 also became key projects. Since this Congress, an important foundation has been created in the construction and completion of the transport infrastructure system. The 10th and 11th Provincial Party Congresses both included in the resolution key transport works and developed a breakthrough program to build a synchronous transport system to serve industrial and urban development in key economic zones.

According to the Deputy Director of the Provincial Investment and Construction Project Management Board - Tran Thien Truc, with a breakthrough mindset and the orientation of transportation leading the way, creating momentum for socio-economic development, up to now, the province's transportation system has basically met the development requirements, contributing to exploiting potentials and strengths, especially in attracting investment.

Promoting the role of transportation

The national key project of Ho Chi Minh City Ring Road 3 is being invested in and constructed, promising to open up new development space for the province

According to the Provincial Investment and Construction Project Management Board, identifying investment in the synchronous construction of the transportation system as one of the strategic breakthroughs in socio-economic development. In recent years, the province has prioritized all resources to focus on investing in the transportation system with a series of major transportation projects completed and put into use, contributing to the formation of a relatively synchronous and modern transportation network of the province. In particular, the key project Provincial Road 830 has been completed, contributing to connecting 4 districts in the key economic region including Duc Hoa - Ben Luc - Can Duoc - Can Giuoc.

This is considered a very important traffic project, playing a role in linking economic centers, industrial parks and clusters of the province and neighboring areas with a number of large seaports such as Long An International Port and Hiep Phuoc Port, promoting socio-economic development for the whole region. In particular, at the 11th Provincial Party Congress, the province identified 3 key traffic projects, which are the completion of Tan An City Ring Road and the bridge over the Vam Co Tay River; Provincial Road 830E (section from the Ho Chi Minh City - Trung Luong expressway interchange to Provincial Road 830) and Provincial Road 827E. Along with that, the province identified investment in traffic projects under the Breakthrough Program to Mobilize All Resources to build a synchronous traffic infrastructure system to serve the development of industry and urban areas in the province's key economic region as a key task.

Up to now, Tan An City Ring Road and the bridge over the Vam Co Tay River have been completed and put into operation, contributing to the development of urban infrastructure, traffic connection, and socio-economic development of Tan An City and neighboring districts such as Thu Thua, Chau Thanh, and Tan Tru. Along with that, the Provincial Road 830E project (from the Ho Chi Minh City - Trung Luong expressway intersection to Provincial Road 830) and the Provincial Road 827E project are being focused on.

According to Mr. Tran Thien Truc, along with the province's traffic works, the unit is currently focusing on the Ho Chi Minh City Ring Road 3 project, section through the province to ensure the completion of the expressway section in 2025 and the entire project in 2026 according to the Government's direction.

“With the priority of investment in the transport infrastructure system, up to now, Long An's transport system has basically met the development requirements, creating new development spaces to help the province exploit its potential and strengths, making breakthroughs in attracting investment and developing the socio-economy,” Mr. Tran Thien Truc affirmed.

Over the past 50 years, with its role and mission of pioneering, the transport infrastructure system has created an important launching pad for the Long An's socio-economic development to take off. From a purely agricultural province, up to now, the province has made a remarkable breakthrough, rising to become an industrial province with an economic scale in the top of the country, gradually realizing the goal of becoming a fairly developed province in the Southern Key Economic Zone and together with the whole country firmly entering a new era of the nation./.

According tothe Department of Agriculture and Environment, up to now, the whole province has 141/160 communes meeting the new rural standards, accounting for 88.13%. Of these, 52 communes have met the advancednew ruralstandards, 9 communes have met the modelnew ruralstandards; 5 district-level units have met the standards/completed thenew ruralconstruction task and 1 district has met the advancednew ruralstandards.

In particular, the biggest highlight innew ruralconstruction is the rural traffic system that has been invested in with a system of synchronously built commune and hamlet roads, ensuring convenient traffic to the commune centers as well as serving the production needs of the people.
