Long An: Banking industry promptly supports customers affected by Covid-19 pandemic
On July 23, the State Bank of Vietnam - Long An branch organized a preliminary review of banking activities in the first 6 months of 2020.

Banking industry in Long An province has well implemented policies to support customers affected by Covid-19 pandemic and salinity drought

The director of the State Bank of Vietnam - Long An branch - Dao Van Nghiep said that the unit had been closely following the direction of the industry according to Directive No. 01/CT-NHNN and orientation for developing economy-society of the province right from the beginning of the year. In the first months of 2020, the economic development situation was complicated due to the impact of epidemics and salinity drought, but the loan balance increased over the same period in 2019. Especially, the banking industry in the province performed well customer support policies affected by Covid-19 pandemic and salinity drought.

Accordingly, customers' loans affected by the Covid-19 epidemic were about 6,234 billion VND. In particular, there are more than 2,700 customers rescheduled, exempted, reduced interest rates of banks with loans outstanding balance of nearly 870 billion VND. In addition, 2,855 customers were considered for new loans with loans outstanding balance of over 8,900 billion VND.

In the province, the total loans outstanding balance to customers in drought and saltwater intrusion areas are about 3,526 billion VND. However, the loans outstanding balance were not much affected, only over 6 billion VND. At present, the Provincial Social Policy Bank is coordinating with the local authorities to review and determine the extent of damage to apply appropriate support measures.

Currently, banks in the province have a total loans outstanding balance of over 72,200 billion VND, an increase of 3,884 billion VND (nearly 5.7 percent) compared to 2019. In particular, the loan outstanding balance for agricultural development, rural areas account for over 58 percent with the amount of 42,323 billion VND; loans for supporting small and medium-sized enterprises accounted for 15.6 percent with the amount of over 11,300 billion VND; The rest is for export loans, supporting industries and high-tech applications.

In order to perform well the task of state management of monetary, serving the purpose of economic development, Mr. Dao Van Nghiep said that the State Bank of Vietnam - Long An branch will direct organizations credit in the province extends credit, concentrates loans to production and business sectors, priority fields, projects, effective business and production plans, and the ability to recover after Covid-19 epidemics from now until the end of 2020. At the same time, it continues to synchronously deploy solutions to remove difficulties for customers affected by Covid-19./.
