On May 12, Long An Department of Industry and Trade coordinated with the Export Support Center (Trade Promotion Department) to organize a consulting session on exporting dragon fruits to Australia and New Zealand.

The Deputy Director of the Department of Industry and Trade of Long An province - Chau Thi Le; Vietnamese Ambassador in New Zealand - Nguyen Van Trung; Deputy Director of Export Support Center - Nguyen Thu Thuy; many experts, export consultants, enterprises specializing in import and export at home and abroad; many enterprises, cooperatives specializing in the production, trading, import and export of dragon fruit in the province participated in the consulting session.

The consulting session is held in two forms, face-to-face and online. At the consulting session, many experts, export consultants, domestic and foreign import-export enterprises shared their experiences and suggested the development orientation of dragon fruit export in the form of global commercialization, bringing practical value to growers.

Accordingly, the consultants shared on the topic "The path to the New Zealand market for Vietnamese fruit products"; "Health Fresh Company's enthusiasm for Vietnamese products"; "Opportunity to improve sustainability for the production, processing and export of Vietnamese dragon fruit"; "Overview of the dragon fruit product market in Australia" and "The issue of access to, application of regulations, standards and conditions for exporting dragon fruit products to the Australian market".

Deputy Director of the Department of Industry and Trade of Long An Province - Chau Thi Le hoped that dragon fruit producers of Long An in particular and Vietnam in general would have more information, knowledge and research, more opportunities to access dragon fruit as well as products processed from dragon fruit to potential markets such as Australia or New Zealand through this consulting session.

Currently, dragon fruit is one of the main crops of the province. Long An ranks second in the country in terms of planting area and dragon fruit harvest with about 11,822 hectares, the fruiting area is about 11,000 hectares.

Long An dragon fruit exports are mainly fresh and frozen to many markets: China, Korea, USA, Japan, Canada, Newzeland, Australia, some Southeast Asian countries. In which, the Chinese market accounts for about 80 percent of the export volume. However, recently, China's import and export management policy, the complicated situation of the Covid-19 epidemic, the increase in dragon fruit growing area in China has caused many difficulties and losses for growers as well as dragon fruit export enterprises.

In addition to consuming and exporting fresh fruit, enterprises in Long An province also deeply process many products from dragon fruit such as crispy dried dragon fruit, dried dragon fruit, dragon fruit wine, dragon fruit juice, mixed dragon fruit powder, dragon fruit syrup, and so on serving domestic and export demand.

Long An's Chau Thanh dragon fruit has also been granted a certificate of geographical indication registration by the National Office of Intellectual Property. Tam Vu dragon fruit trademark has been protected in 5 countries: USA, France, Japan, Singapore and China.

Long An province has Long An dragon fruit Association with over 100 members who are cooperative enterprises in Long An province with warehouse and preliminary processing capacity that can be exported to many different markets in large quantities. In particular, Long An province has a fruit processing factory with hot steam technology with a capacity of 12,000 tons per year and is eligible for packaging for export to a number of markets with high quality requirements./.
