Tan Thanh is located in the deep region of Dong Thap Muoi and annually impacted heavily by the floods. The establishment and socio-economic development of Tan Thanh is closely linked to reclamation and immigration and construction of new economic region in Dong Thap Muoi. In the economic and geographical division of Long An province, Tan Thanh district is located in the sub-zone 3 (including Vinh Hung, tan Hung, Moc Hoa, Tan Thanh). The main economic development direction is agriculture-forestry in which the leading is community rice production.
