Vinh Hung is located in the deep area of Dong Thap Muoi and annually impacted heavily by the floods. The establishment and socio-economic development of Vinh Hung is closely linked with the reclamation, immigrations and construction of the new economic area in Dong Thap Muoi. Located in the transition between the Pleitocene and the upstream of Mekong River Delta Region, two main landscape types of te region is alum low with rich in rainwater (Sulphur-rich sediment) and river beds of the ancient rivers. The clear typical feature of VInh Hung is the grey soil along Cambodia border and the strengthened ancient riversto create the low delta region and alum areas. According to the geographical and economic region classification of Long An province, VInh Hung belongs to Sub-zone 3 (including Vinh Hung, Tan Hung, Moc Hoa, Tan Thanh). The key economic development direction is agriculture-forestry in which commodity rice production is the leading direction.
Vinh Hung district consists of 10 communes-town in which Vinh Hung town is the center town and the remaining communes are: Vinh Tri, Hung Dien A, Thai Tri, Thai Binh Trung, Tuyen Binh, Tuyen Binh Tay, Vinh Binh, Khanh Hung, Vinh Thuan.
