Dengue fever hits nearly 1,700 in Hanoi Dengue fever hits nearly 1,700 in Hanoi
Nearly 1,700 Hanoi hospital patients have had dengue fever this year, the city’s Health Department has said.
But Dr. Can Phu Nhuan, head of the Examination Department at the Vietnam National Hospital of Pediatrics, said the number of child patients had increased dramatically over the last few days.

The Pediatrics Hospital estimates that some 1,200 to 1,500 children have come to the hospital for examinations each day recently.

Nhuan said children had been badly hit by diseases, including dengue, due to recent flooding in Hanoi and northern provinces.

The floods have created stagnant bodies of water, perfect breeding grounds for the mosquitoes that spread the disease.

The agency said 81 percent of the city’s current dengue patients are Hanoi residents, with the rest coming from nearby provinces.

The fever has hit 170 communes and wards in the city’s 21 districts, the agency said.

Twenty southern cities and provinces have seen a total of 69 deaths from 58,635 dengue fever cases this year, the Ho Chi Minh City Pasteur Institute reported early this month.

At the dialogue

Leaders of the provincial People's Committee, departments, branches, localities, representatives of Hoa Khanh Dong cooperative and farmers attended the meeting.

At the dialogue, representatives of cooperatives and farmers expressed their opinions on the process of production, breeding and consumption of beef cattle. According to the farmers, at present, breeding beef cattle is still very difficult, farmers do not have much information about high-quality cows, nutrition and the breeding methods.

Besides, the State's support policies for farmers are quite limited. Specifically, farmers are not supported electricity prices; the process of approaching policies to support livestock credit and consumption markets is still difficult, etc.

According to the Secretary of Long An Provincial Party Committee - Pham Van Ranh, developing high-tech application agriculture in association with restructuring agriculture is one of two breakthrough programs of this term. In particular, beef cattle are selected in high-tech applications. Farmers should link with cooperatives, cooperative groups as well as change backward farming methods.

He asked the authorities and functional agencies to intensify the propaganda of supporting policies; improve cooperatives to develop dynamically and proactively, not relying on State support. Farmers should join cooperatives to work together and have favorable conditions in breeding and consuming beef cattle; invite businesses to invest in the high-tech beef farming areas of the province and support the consumption for farmers, etc.

Long An: In the first 6 months of 2019, export turnover is estimated at USD 2.92 billionLong An: In the first 6 months of 2019, export turnover is estimated at USD 2.92 billion
In the first 6 months of 2019, the export turnover in Long An province is estimated at USD 2.92 billion, increasing to 15 percent over the same period in 2018 (increase to 20 percent). Besides, import turnover reached USD 2.2 billion, up 13.2 percent over the same period in 2018 (increase to 4 percent).

Dragon fruit is the most exported product of Long An province

At present, there are more than 800 enterprises participating in export and import in the whole province. These enterprises have exported to more than 120 countries and territories around the world.

Export products include rice, cashew nuts, aquacuture products, dragon fruit, seedless lemon, leather shoes, textile products, mechanical products, electric wires - electric cables, agricultural machinery and equipment, plastic products, and so on.

Imported products mainly include textile and garment materials, chemicals, plastics, animal feed materials, machinery and equipment.

According to the general assessment, despite the growth, export turnover is slower than the same period in 2018. One of the reasons is the fluctuation of the world market and domestic enterprises, especially the inability to predict all risks in the trade of agricultural products exporters.

In addition, many countries are increasing technical barriers, quotas and requirements for quality and origin of goods. Therefore, the increase in export of the province is not as effective as expected. In addition, the province's export volume in light industry depends heavily on foreign invested enterprises (FDI). At present, the export turnover of the province still depends on FDI enterprises, accounting for about 70 percent.

In order to promote the export of goods, especially agricultural products, the province focuses on propagating the market regulations; provide list and process of using pesticides in agricultural production, encourage the production of VietGAP and GlobalGAP standards; and ensure food safety to enhance the competitiveness of Vietnamese agricultural products.

On the other hand, the province also focus on investment and trade promotion; seeking and expanding new markets besides traditional markets; contacting and mobilizing investment, especially investment promotion agencies and economic representatives of Vietnam in foreign countries./.
